ÅAC Microtec appoints Luis Gomes new CEO

ÅAC Microtec AB has appointed Luis Gomes new CEO. Luis Gomes has 25 years of experience in the space industry, specializing in the field of small satellites. He joins ÅAC from UK's SSTL where he most recently held the position of CTO and Executive Director with responsibility for defining and implementing both technical and commercial strategies.

"Luis brings unique expertise in "New Space" and a clear view on how to develop AAC Clyde Space into a global leader in the small sat arena. Firmly rooted on the technology side of our business, he has through the years proven very successful in leveraging that understanding to create viable commercial business opportunities, spearheading the market. I look forward to welcoming Luis onboard," says ÅAC Microtec chair Rolf Hallencreutz.

"AAC Clyde is very well positioned in the small satellite area and I look forward to working with the team to continue the journey to become the global leader in this rapidly emerging sector. To succeed in our mission, we will need to continue to develop both the company and our business. With the excellent team in place, I am very confident that we will succeed", says Luis Gomes.

SSTL (Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd) started as a university spin-out in the mid-1980s with a clear focus on small sats, and evolved to gain Airbus as main owner in 2009. In recent years, Luis Gomes focused on the new challenges faced by the small satellite industry and setting the strategy for the future at SSTL, communicating his vision to colleagues, customers and other stakeholders. He holds a degree in Applied Physics from the University of Lisbon and an MSc in Satellite Engineering from the University of Surrey.

CFO Mats Thideman will continue in his role as acting CEO until Luis Gomes assumes his position May 7th 2019.
